About this major
Industrial Engineering improves systems involving people, information, machines, and resources. Students use mathematics, statistics, computing, optimization, and human-factors methods to study how work gets done. Clemson’s program combines analytical modeling with applied projects and offers an additional computing emphasis for deeper technical study. Coursework also considers safety and decision-making.

Before You Choose
What studying it feels like
You’ll study why a system wastes time or produces inconsistent results. Modeling and data analysis help reveal the problem, then team design work turns that evidence into a better process.
One thing to know
This is engineering focused on systems rather than one product. Students should be comfortable working with data and with the people inside the process.
Ask yourself
- 1Do you notice inefficient systems and want to rebuild them?
- 2Are you comfortable balancing mathematical models with how people actually work?
Longer-term context
$100,000
